To spend a year at sea, is to undergo a difficult journey, through uncertain circumstance and changeable weather. These designs aim to capture that sense of locomotion, transience and adversity.

The vast majority of imagery was taken from the US National Archives. This "found" approach lent an inherent historicity to the images. An authentic sense of times past.

The design concept for "A Year At Sea" was an urban travelogue. Snapshots of moments and places in a long journey.

The feeling of nostalgia was a core goal of these designs. Every surface of the imagery has been dirtied, worn and aged. A pain staking process, but one I feel paid its dividends.
